Below is a list and description of the awards presented to me over the years:

2019:

36. Awarded the 2019 AAPG Distinguished Service Award, which is “presented to members who have distinguished themselves in singular and beneficial long-term service to AAPG.”

2018:

35. The paper entitled ‘SCOOP and STACK inversion case studies’ presented at the 2018 SEG Annual Convention held at Anaheim, October 2018 was ranked among the top 25 papers out of the 1090 papers presented at the meeting.

2017:

  1. The paper entitled ‘Coherence attribute applications on seismic data in various guises presented at the 2017 SEG Annual Convention held at Houston, September 2017 was ranked among the top 39 presented at the meeting. 9 papers tied for the 30th place, and 1106 papers in all were presented at the Convention. It has now been intimated (23rd April, 2018) that it has received Honorable Mention in the category of Best Post Paper  presented at the 2017 SEG Annual Meeting.

33. Awarded the 2017 EAGE Honorary Membership Award, which is “conferred on a person who has made a highly significant and distinguished technical contribution to the geoscience community at large or the Association in particular.”

32. The CSEG Symposium Committee had chosen me as the honouree for their 2017 CSEG Symposium, and I was honoured at their one-day session held on April 6th, 2017 at the Petroleum Club, Calgary, with their theme of Creative Measures.

2016:

31. Awarded the 2016 APEGA Fellow of Engineers Canada Award as a recognition for expertise and experience which have helped to enhance APEGA and its Members.

2015:

30. The paper entitled ‘Enhancing interpretability of seismic data with spectral decomposition phase components presented at the 2015 SEG Annual Convention held at New Orleans, October 2015 was ranked among the top 31 presented at the meeting.

2014:

29.   Won the ‘Best Poster Paper’ Award for the poster entitled ‘Churning seismic attributes with principal component analysis’ presented at the 2014 SEG Annual Convention held in Denver, October 2014. It was ranked 9th among the top 32 presentations (oral and poster) presented at the meeting.

28.  Awarded the 2014 CSEG Honorary Membership Award, which is “normally given  only to a few members who have gained recognition for distinguished contributions in the field of geophysics or in service to the CSEG, either nationally or internationally.”

2013_APEGA_Frank_Spragins_award

27. Awarded the 2014 APEGA Frank Spragins Technical Award as a recognition for integrity, expertise and outstanding accomplishments in fields related to engineering and/or geoscience. (http://youtu.be/5gKWoLXRMes).

2013:

26.  Received the prestigious designation of ‘Fellow’ by Geoscientists Canada, in appreciation of contribution to the geoscience profession. This fellowship has been instituted under the auspices of APEGA and being awarded for the first time in 2013.

25.  Won the AAPG Jules Braunstein Memorial Award for the best poster paper entitled ‘New seismic attribute for determination of lithology and brittleness’ presented at the 2013 AAPG Annual Convention held at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, from 19th to 21st May, 2013.

24.  The paper entitled ‘New seismic attribute for determination of lithology and brittleness’ was awarded Honourable Mention paper published in the CSEG RECORDER.

23. APEGA Voluntary Service Award presented on January 16th, 2013, in recognition of dedicated voluntary service to the affairs of the Association.

22.  Won the ‘Best Poster Paper’ Award for the poster entitled ‘Determination of elastic constants using extended elastic impedance, presented at the 2012 GeoConvention, held at Calgary in May 2012 with Ritesh Sharma as co-author.

21. The paper entitled ‘Seismic attribute expression of differential compaction’ was awarded Honourable Mention paper published in the CSEG RECORDER.

2010:

20.  The paper entitled ‘Seismic Attributes on frequency-enhanced seismic data’ presented at the 2010 SEG Annual Convention held at Denver, October 2010 was ranked among the top 30 presented at the meeting.

19.  The paper entitled ‘Am I really predicting natural fractures in the tight Nordegg Gas Sandstone of West Central Alberta? Part 1: Theory and Statistics, and Part II: Observations and Conclusions: by Lee Hunt, Scott Reynolds, Tyson Brown, Scott Hadley, Jon Downton and Satinder Chopra presented at the 2010 GeoCanada Convention held at Calgary, May 2010 was adjudged as the ‘Best Geophysical Oral Presentation’ out of all presentations made at the meeting. The presenter was Lee Hunt.

18.  The paper entitled ‘Delineating stratigraphic features via crossplotting of seismic discontinuity attributes and their volume visualization’ presented at the 2010 AAPG Annual Convention held at New Orleans, April 2010 won the AAPG George C. Matson Award for being adjudged as a ‘Best Oral Presentation’ out of almost thousand presentations made at the meeting.

2009:

17.  The paper entitled ‘Extracting Meaningful Information From Seismic Attributes’ presented at the 2009 AAPG Annual Convention held at Denver, June 2009 was given the ‘Award of Excellence’ for being adjudged as a ‘Top 10 Poster Presentation’ out of all the posters presented at the meeting.

2008

16.  The paper entitled ‘Gleaning Meaningful Information From Seismic Attributes’ presented at the 2008 SEG Annual Convention held at Las Vegas, November 2008 was ranked among the top 30 presented at the meeting.

15.  The poster paper entitled ‘Multispectral Volumetric Curvature Adding Value to 3D Seismic Data Interpretation’ presented at the 2008 SEG Annual Convention held at Las Vegas, November 2008 was ranked among the top 30 presented at the meeting.

14.  The poster paper entitled ‘Seismic Attributes for Stratigraphic Feature Characterization’ presented at the 2008 SEG Annual Convention held at Las Vegas, November 2008 was ranked among the top 30 presented at the meeting.

2007:

13. Won the ‘Best Paper’ Award for the paper entitled ‘Curvature and iconic Coherence-Attributes adding value to 3D Seismic Data Interpretation’ presented at the CSEG Technical Luncheon, Calgary, January 2007.

12. Won the ‘Best Poster Paper’ Award for the poster entitled ‘Seismic Attributes for fault/fracture characterization’ presented at the 2007 SEG Annual Convention held in San Antonio, September 2007.

 2006:

11. Awarded Honourable Mention – 1 and – 2 for the posters entitled ‘Curvature attribute applications to seismic data’ and ‘Seismic resolution and thin-bed reflectivity’ presented at the 2006 CSEG/CSPG/CWLS National Convention held in Calgary, May 2006.

9. Won the ‘Best Poster Paper’ Award for the poster entitled ‘Studying Seismic Textures’ presented at the CSEG Annual Convention held in Calgary, May 2005.

8. Awarded Honourable Mention-1 for the poster entitled ‘Azimuth Move-out-a promising application for pre-stack data’ presented at the 2005 CSEG National Convention held in Calgary, May 2005.

2004:

7.  Won the ‘Best Poster Paper’ Award for the poster entitled ‘Mackenzie Delta seismic case study – a reprocessing perspective presented at the CSEG Annual Convention held in Calgary, May 2004.

2003:

6. Won the ‘Best Poster Paper’ Award for the poster entitled ‘Multi-Attribute Seismic Analysis on AVO Derived Parameters – a Case Study’ presented at the CSPG/CSEG Annual Convention held in Calgary, June 2003.

2002:

5. Won the ‘Best Poster Paper’ Presentation Award for the poster entitled ‘High Frequency Restoration – a new tool for seismic interpreters’ presented at the CSEG Annual Convention held in Calgary, May 2002.

4. Won the ‘Best Paper’ Award for the paper entitled ‘High Frequency Restoration of Surface Seismic Data’ presented at the CSEG Annual Convention held in Calgary, May 2002, and at the Technical Luncheon, Calgary, June 2002.

1995:

3.  Won the meritorious award given by Head, GEOPIC, ONGC, Dehradun, India for ‘Meritorious work in Seislog Preparation and Interpretation’ on 26th January’1995.

1992

2.  Won the meritorious award given by Head, GEOPIC, ONGC, Dehradun, India for ‘Outstanding contribution in Special Seismic Studies and Modeling’ on 15th August’1992.

1989:
